Why AMIGOS is Unique

AMIGOS is distinguished from other student service programs by its unique youth-led programs and Leadership Ladder. After successfully completing a community assignment in Latin America, volunteers can return for higher levels of responsibility through which they strengthen their program planning and management skills.

Project staff receive extensive training on designing and conducting service projects with partner agencies, selecting volunteers’ host families, responding to health and safety challenges, and providing technical guidance and support to volunteers.

The result is a corps of highly qualified, skilled and motivated young leaders who are entrusted with major management responsibilities.
